New Headband Displays!

I loved the look of my old headband displays made out of covered oatmeal canisters, but the fact of the matter was that it was pretty much impossible to get the headbands off of the canister.  Not great for people interested in, you know, actually buying my product.  Or interested in trying them on, or whatever.  So I decided to simplify.  I'm really pleased with the results--we'll see if it helps sales!

First, I found this wrought iron thingamabob at Goodwill for $3.  I'm not sure what its original use was (some kind of candleholder, maybe?), and I'm probably using it upside down, but the three curls at the "top" seemed perfect for hanging the three different sizes of headbands that I sell at childrens' stores.

All I did to this one was take three of my postcards and stick them together in a triangle, then I made a top out of cardstock so that you couldn't look into the middle, then used a glue gun to tack the postcards to the top of the display.  Since the headbands are just hanging, I thought it was important to have at least a picture of how they look on a head, hence the postcards.

But, I am in six stores now, and the chances of finding five more of these things were pretty slim.  I did find one more candleholder to flip upsidedown for a similar effect:

I spray-painted it black and evened out the display card before it was ready to go out.
But then I found a piece that is available in much more plentiful supply at Goodwill--the humble mug tree.

The only problem with these was that the lowest rungs for hanging mugs were too close to the base for a headband.  So I removed those, and plugged the hole with a combo of hot glue topped with plastic wood.

The bottom pegs twisted out fairly easily.

Plugged hole, ready to be sanded.
Then I gave them a light sanding and spray-painted them flat black.  I gave it two coats just to be safe.

With and without product.
Voila! The mug trees were $1.99 each at Goodwill, and the spray paint was $3 (it also covered the other candle holder, and I don't think I'm quite out of paint yet).  So, pretty affordable headband display, and I'm happy with the results.

Headband Display!

Last week, I was contacted by a children's consignment store via facebook who told me that they wanted to sell my headbands.  Flattering!  I checked out their website and asked some questions, and I will be bringing some inventory over there later this week.  Once my stuff is officially there, I will post details--but good news for you west-siders--you won't have to come over the bridge to buy my headbands any more!

SO, I needed to make a display for the new store.  I made similar displays for the headbands for sale at Piccolina.  Criteria?  Shows the headbands, costs me next to nothing.  Here's what I came up with.

EDITED--I still think these displays are cute, but after having them out in stores for a while, I realized that they make it hard for customers to get at the headbands, since they have to work them over other bands to get them off.  I think they may actually hold people back from buying.  I'm using a different display I made out of thrifted materials and spray paint now, and it's working much better!

Supplies:  Oatmeal container, bamboo skewers, felt, hot glue, and a display card. (cost about $1 to get the color copy on cardstock.)

Here's where I started to worry that it looked like a roll of paper towels.

I think it's okay once the bands are on though, right?
So, what do you think?  Keep the white?  Recover with black?

Also, I'm considering doing craft shows in the future, so if you have old oatmeal containers lying around, send them my way!
